Lauren arrives home from 6 months in Bolivia tomorrow! Becca is home from college in L.A. tomorrow! They are not landing close enough to each other to keep me from making two trips to O’Hare – but that’s okay. I CAN’T WAIT TO HAVE THEM HOME.
It’s going to be such a culture shock for Lauren (and weather shock). She is going through so many crazy emotions as she leaves these girls at Mosoj Yan. But she’s got us and a boyfriend and her life here. I can’t imagine what she will be going through. And she’s bringing a Bolivian friend that she has lived with who is going to live in our area for awhile and try to find a job, so Parkview will have a new South American member this weekend. :)
And in spite of the fact that Becca was at Disneyland on Tuesday and it’s always sunny and warm in L.A. – she’s really looking forward to being home as well.
There is nothing like being home – even if it’s nasty, old, Chicago.
The empty nest is great, and I know we’ll have some adjustments to make being re-invaded by the children. But we are so excited. And I guess I’ve used these “God the Father” analogies to death, but I was just sitting here thinking that I wish everyone reading this blog today could know that God feels the same way – times a billion – about them.
If you’ve been gone from God for a while, he misses you. Listen to my favorite story…
When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.’ So he got up and went to his father.
But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate. Luke 15:17-24
Happy Homecoming!
