I was reading in Matthew 9 about one of Jesus' miracles.
Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith will it be done to you”; and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.” But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region. Matthew 9:29-31
Don’t you think that if you were blind and then some guy healed you – the one thing you’ve been waiting for so long – and then he warned you “sternly” not to tell anyone, that you would honor that request? I mean, I think I’d be worried that I’d go back to being blind if I didn’t do what he said, right? But they couldn’t help it! They went out and told everyone and the news spread all around the region.
How do you not tell people?
It’s funny to me, because in the next passage it says,
Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Matthew 9:35-38
I don’t know why Jesus told the blind guys not to tell anyone, but he clearly DOES want us to tell people.
So what has Jesus healed you from, and does anybody know about it?
Pray for our young people. A bunch of our high school students and sponsors leave for the Czech Republic today. They are going to teach English at a camp to fellow teenagers who don’t know Jesus. The Czech Republic is very much a non-Christian nation with around 45% of Czechs professing to be atheists. Every time our young people go, there are many Czech students who find Christ. Pray for them.
And our junior high students left Sunday for Milligan, Tennessee to participate in “Know Sweat” a program of Christ in Youth. They have been involved in service projects for the community.
Ask the Lord of the harvest to send them into his harvest field. And don’t forget to ask him what he wants you to do, too! It’s kind of dumb to pray about it if you already know:)
Blessings,
Tim
Loved to read this, thanks.
