I witnessed a beautiful wedding last night. They were two young people who met in our youth group and fell in love. It was one of those stories that just makes you sit back and think “I know why we do this.”
I’ll be honest with you, there are days when you wonder if this “church” thing is headed the right direction and days when I wonder if we’re doing it the way God wants. We spend a lot of money on buildings and staff and put a lot of energy into our services and programs. This wedding reminded me of the big picture. We just spent money on new youth and children’s space. We certainly could have spent more, I think we were more than financially responsible with what we had. But it is going to be awesome, we will open up the youth space next weekend!
It is worth it. Jamie and Natalie found faith in our youth program and found love and are starting a union that will produce fruit 100 times more than anything we “invested” in them. The investment will grow exponentially, and will last through eternity. When I think of my friend Bailey who passed away last year, who found her hope and her joy and her eternity through this youth group, it makes me know it’s worth it.
If you are a teacher, you get this. If you had a good one, you know what I mean. Every once in a while you get a glimpse of why we do this. It’s not often in the daily grind, it’s usually in some special moment when you see how it all comes together.
God Bless his church! This one and every one – that poured into our minds and souls the very heart of God. Whether it was a VBS, a Sunday School, a CCD, a youth group, or a special trip or program – if you were blessed by a youth program somewhere, you should stop and give God thanks for those people who sacrificed and made it possible for you to be blessed. I am so thankful both for those who poured into my life, and even more so for those who poured into my kids. It all happened for my kids at Parkview. I’m committed to making sure it keeps happening for your kids.
And when you see our new space in the next few weeks around here – do the same thing. Be thankful, and be a part of the future. Eternity is in the balance and the future church is at stake.
I saw proof last night - the future is good.
Tim
